Rehydration Management Training

According to the World Health Organization, diarrhea is the second leading cause of death in the under five-year-old children after pneumonia.

Diarrhea symptoms and the resulting dehydration tend to be underestimated. Recognizing deteriorating health situation and providing prompt intervention can not only save a child’s life, but also add critical time while the family seeks additional support.

We train mothers and caregivers with young children how to recognize symptoms of dehydration and how administer oral rehydration salts (ORS) promptly to prevent premature death.

We seek to close the gap between the time when symptoms of dehydration occur and the time that it take to seek assistance at a hospital and promote rehydration management. The Village Health Coordinators are working closely with families on the ground providing ongoing training.

Since December 2016 to date we have distributed 4000+ packets of oral rehydration salts.
